WINONA, Minn. – Junior Brooke Hiestand scored a personal best on the floor exercise as the Winona State gymnastics team rallied in the final rotation to beat Wisconsin-Eau Claire 182.875-181.925 in the team's home opener Friday night in McCown Gym.
Hiestand scored a 9.675 to lead a strong Warrior showing on the floor exercise in the final rotation, coming back from nearly two full points down after struggling on the beam in the third rotation. Veronica Peterson added a 9.425, Jade Donaldson scored a 9.350, Melanee Pfautz recorded a 9.275 and Kathryn Pipp finished with a 9.150. As a team, the Warriors finished the floor event with a 46.875.
The Warriors also had a fine showing on the uneven parallel bars, with all six participants recording a 9.100 or better. Pipp led the way with a 9.550, while Danielle Thenell recorded a strong 9.500. Olivia Cattelino scored a 9.400, while freshman Katie Carling scored a 9.250 and Pfautz and Donaldson each had 9.100.
Donaldson led the Warriors on the vault, scoring a meet-best 9.350, while Taylor Lewis scored a 9.325 and Hiestand added a 9.300.
Cassidy Kleven was WSU's top scorer on the beam, finishing with an 8.975.
Donaldson was the lone Warrior to compete in the All-Around, posting a 36.200 which tied her with the Blugolds' Victoria Erickson for the win.
Winona State next travels to La Crosse, Wis. to compete in the Gershon Invitational on Friday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m.Â
