Hot-Hitting Warriors Sweep U-Mary 3-0

BISMARCK, N.D. – The No. 25 Winona State volleyball team recorded its second sweep in as many nights, quickly defeating the University of Mary in straight sets Saturday in Bismarck.

Freshman Maria Wrage put together the best performance of her young Warrior career, picking up a career-high 10 kills – the only player from either squad to reach double digits. Wrage hit a blistering .615 for the match, committing just two errors while connecting on 10 of her 13 tries.

The Warriors hit .464 in the first set while holding the Marauders to .097. The result was a 25-15 victory.

WSU heated up even more in the second set – a 25-10 – win, hitting .556 for the set with 11 kills and just one error in 18 attempts. The Warriors then finished off U-Mary with a 25-20 win in the final set.

A trio of Warriors – Lauren Kudronowicz, Danielle Rampart and Maria Fruechte – recorded eight kills. Kudronowicz hit .438, while Rampart hit .261 and .286.

As a team, the Warriors had one of its best hitting performances of the season. WSU hit .370 for the match – its second-highest mark of the season.

No. 25 Winona State (11-7, 5-6 NSIC) returns to McCown Gymnasium for three matches next week beginning Tuesday against Upper Iowa at 7 p.m.
