Seniors Star On Senior Day In 2-0 Win Over Minnesota Crookston

WINONA, Minn. – A pair of seniors scored on Senior Day to lead the Winona State soccer team to a 2-0 win over Minnesota Crookston on a sunny fall Sunday at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Despite a plethora of opportunities and a 14-3 WSU advantage in shots, the two teams were scoreless after the first half.

The Warriors ended their scoring drought of more than two full games in the 57th minute when senior Mehan Bolton found fellow senior Kati Baker on a crossing pass that Baker put in the net for the eventual game winner and her fifth goal of the season.

15 minutes later, the Warriors got an insurance goal when Abby Bohanski and Chase Rehm set up a ball directly in front of the net that senior Nicole Sames headed in for her first goal of the season and a 2-0 Warrior lead.

The Warrior defense was stout once again, posting its fourth straight shutout and the sixth in the last seven outings.

Baker had as many shots as the entire Golden Eagle team, accounting for seven of the Warriors' 28 shots in the match. Five of Baker's shots were on goal, while WSU had 15 on goal as a team.

Sames added five shots with three on goal, while Bohanski put two of her three shots on goal.

Oleson was credited with her 10th shutout of the season, needing to make just a pair of saves to get the win.

Winona State (11-3-2, 8-3-2 NSIC) wraps up its regular season next weekend, returning to Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium for a Friday night matchup with No. 6 Minnesota State at 6 p.m. before a Sunday finale at Concordia-St. Paul.
