WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State gymnastics team claimed titles in every event while cruising to a 183.100-172.850 victory over visiting Gustavus Adolphus Tuesday evening in McCown Gymnasium.
The Warriors recorded the top four finishers on both the beam and the bars, the top three finishers on the floor exercise and the top finisher on vault and the all-around to earn the commanding win.
Winona State was strong on the beam, recording its season-best score of 45.600. Freshman Cassidy Kleven led the way, winning the event with a personal-best 9.375. Jade Donaldson and Katie Carling finished second with matching scores of 9.325 while Brooke Hiestand added a 9.150.
Donaldson won the All-Around title by nearly a full point over three Gustavus gymnasts with a score of 37.000.
WSU earned its best team score of the night on the floor, with all five competitors scoring a 9.175 or better for a team score of 46.525. Hiestand claimed the top event score with a 9.450 while Veronica Peterson scored a 9.400, Donaldson added a 9.325 and Melanee Pfautz and Jessica Gabriel each recorded a 9.175.
Donaldson won the vault with a score of 9.400 as the Warriors took five of the top six spots. Taylor Lewis added a 9.350, while Peterson and Joanna Reale each scored a 9.200.
Olivia Cattelino won the bars with a 9.350, the only gymnast from either team to score above a 9.000. Donaldson finished second with an 8.950, while Carling scored an 8.900 and Pfautz added an 8.875.
Winona State is back in action Friday at the Midwest Twisters Harley Davidson Invite at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
