FARGO, N.D. – Brianna Havelka picked up victories at the top of the singles and doubles lineup, but it wasn't enough as the Winona State tennis team fell to the University of Mary 6-3 Sunday morning in Fargo.
Havelka and teammate Justine Daane topped Mary's Sarah Janes and Catherine Gibbens with a strong 8-3 effort.
The doubles tandem also was successful on the singles side. Havelka, despite trailing 6-5 in the first set, earned a victory by default when Mary's Janes was forced to retire.
Daane, meanwhile, picked up a strong 6-3, 6-4 win over Gibbens.
Winona State (6-10) wraps up NSIC play with a 5-6 record in conference. The Warriors are set to play two final regular season nonconference matchups next Friday and Saturday when it travels to Luther College Friday before hosting St. Norbert on Saturday.
