WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State tennis team rounded out its regular season with a pair of nonconference matchups, falling to Luther College 6-3 Friday night before dropping a 5-4 decision to St. Norbert Saturday afternoon in its home finale.
Against the Norse, WSU's top two doubles teams were strong, with the No. 1 team of Brianna Havelka and Justine Daane earning an 8-3 win and the tandem of Leah Dahl and Katie Scruggs picking up an 8-6 victory.
Dahl also won in singles play, beating Luther's Jenna Myers 6-3, 6-4.
The top of WSU's lineup also paced the Warriors, but the Green Knights' depth prevailed in a tight 5-4 win. Havelka and Daane picked up their second win in as many days in doubles play, cruising to an 8-3 win.
The top three singles players all earned victories for WSU, with Havelka picking up a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win, Daane claiming an equally impressive 6-0, 6-4 victory and Leah Dahl rallying for a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 win in a tiebreak.
Winona State (6-12) awaits No.1-seeded Augustana in the opening round of the NSIC/US Bank Tournament Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka, Minn.
