WINONA, Minn. – Junior thrower
Abbey Ristow set a new personal best and set a NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship provisional qualifying mark while
Ashley Thooft won two events to help pace the Winona State track and field team at the Saint Mary's Open on Saturday.
Ristow had a fantastic day in the hammer throw, taking first place with a 54.78-meter (179' 9") throw. The throw set the sixth-best mark in program history and set the 16th best mark in Division II. Her teammate, freshman
Kaitlyn Long also finished third in the event with a throw of 52.19-meters (171' 3").
It was also a great day for freshman thrower
Ashley Thooft, as she came away with victories in the shot put and the discus. Thooft's throw of 12.95-meters (42' 6") in the shot put set the ninth-best mark in WSU history and her throw of 44.15-meters (144' 10") took the top spot in the discus event.
The Warriors also had a strong showing in the 1500-meter run, taking the top two spots in the event.
Chelsea Schrubbe set a new personal best of 4:43.02 to replace her fourth-best mark in the program's history.
Amanda Kaiser finished second, crossing the finish line in 4:56.48.
Winona State also picked up a victory in the triple jump as
Andrea Bartz won the event with a tally of 11.34-meters (37' 2 1/2").
In the 400-meter hurdles,
Karina Elford set a new personal best time of 1:07.37, moving into fifth in school history.
McKenzie Carper came away with a second place finish in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line 2:20.65 and tied the ninth-best mark in WSU history.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Brittney Dulak came away with a third place finish with a time of 15:34, tying her own personal best for the eighth-best mark in the history of the program.
Alyssa Weiler came away with a third place finish in the high jump with a 1.55-meter (5' 1"),
Hannah Mueller took third in the triple jump with a 5.26-meters (17' 3 1/4"), and
Erin Matthew finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 12:27.08.
The Warriors' next meet will be at the NSIC Multi-Event Championships in Mankato, Minn., where
Olivia Fixsen and
Amanda Schaefer are scheduled to compete with the first day of the two-day meet set for Sunday, April 26.
