LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The Winona State women's golf team finished in fifth place at the eight-team, two-round Holiday Inn Invite hosted by Concordia-St. Paul Saturday and Sunday at Tartan Park Golf Course in Lake Elmo, Minn.
As a team, WSU shot scores of 335 and 339 for a two-day score of 674. Augustana won the invite by nine shots with scores of 306 and 304. The host Golden Bears finished second, followed by St. Cloud State and Upper Iowa.
Senior Katya Hoffman led the Warriors to finish in a tie for 15th place, firing consistent scores of 81 to finish with a two-round total of 162, 18 strokes over par.
Junior Marissa Geyer shaved a stroke off her opening round 84 for a final round 83 to finish in 20th place on the leaderboard, 23 strokes over par.
Freshmen Courtney Bergum (87-85), Jessica Blanchard (83-92) and Madelyn Miller (87-90) finished tied for 25th, tied for 27th and 29th, respectively.
Winona State heads to Marshall, Minn. next weekend for the Mustang Invitational, which will serve as the team's final preparations for the NSIC Fall Championship to be held October 10-11 in Brainerd, Minn.
