No. 22 Warriors Fall 3-1 At Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa – The No. 22 Winona State volleyball team fell 3-1 at Upper Iowa Tuesday night in Fayette, Iowa.

The Warriors, faced with the task of playing without two of its top hitters in Danielle Rampart and Maria Fruechte, won the first set with relative ease 25-16 but were unable to hold off the Peacocks and Jennifer Mundt – who had 27 kills – and dropped the next three sets.

WSU hit .211 in the opening set while holding the Peacocks to .081. Lauren Kudronowicz picked up five kills with no errors and hit .500 in the opener. With the Warriors clinging to just a two-point lead at 17-15, Winona State went on impressive 8-1 run to run away with the set and a 1-0 lead.

But the Warriors struggled from that point, hitting just .056 in the second set as the Peacocks evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-16 win of its own.

The Warriors statistically had its best set of the match in the third set, hitting .222, but the Peacocks hit .342 and did just enough to pull out a 25-23 victory and take a 2-1 lead before winning the final set 25-20.

Taylor Goar led the Warriors with 13 kills and 14 digs for her fourth straight double-double but hit just .098. Kudronowicz added 12 kills while hitting .360.

McKenna Larsen led all players with 33 assists and recorded seven kills and nine assists.

No. 22 Winona State (7-3, 1-2 NSIC) heads back on the road this weekend to face a pair of ranked opponents in No. 5 Wayne State Friday and No. 22 Augustana Saturday.
