BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Winona State was picked to finish fourth in the NSIC Preseason Women's Indoor Track and Field Coaches' Poll. The Warriors
Kaitlyn Long was selected as the Preseason Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. The Warriors indoor season begins Friday with the Pentathlon at the Chuck Peterson Open. The season continues Saturday with the rest of the Chuck Peterson Open.
Long is the two-time defending National Championship in the weight throw. She was the 2015-16 NSIC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after winning both the shot and weight last year's NSIC Indoor Championship.
Field events begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the weight throw. Track events being at noon with the 60m hurdles.
Long and
Megan Seidl, both USTFCCCA All-Americans, return for the Warriors. Long won her second National Championship in the weight throw, setting a meet record. Seidl was 12
th in the 400m dash and 16
th in the 200m dash at the National Championships.
The team had three champions during the 2016 NSIC Indoor Meet, the most since 2012. Last year the team finished fourth the highest finish since 2013, when they took third.
This weekend's meet is the Warriors only meet in December, their next action will be January 14
th in Winona at Saint Mary's.
