LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Winona State women's golf team opened their spring season with a sixth-place finish Wednesday and Thursday at the SMSU Spring Invite at Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
WSU finished tied for sixth place with Truman State. The Warriors, which shot a 331 in the first round to sit alone in sixth place by three shots, finished with a final round 333 to finish with a total of 664. WSU was six shots back of fifth place host SMSU and five shots ahead of Nebraska-Kearney for eighth.
The Warriors' scores were even at the top, with Marissa Geyer leading WSU with a tie for 23rd place at +19. Geyer shot an opening round 82 and followed up with an 81 Thursday. Jessica Blanchard and Katya Hoffman each finished tied for 26th, as Blanchard shot even 82s and Katya Hoffman improved her opening round 84 with a final round 80.
WSU hits the links again in Arizona on March 14-15 for the Fort Hays Spring Thaw Invite at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa.
