WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State tennis team dropped a pair of matches in its final NSIC contests of the season, falling to MSU Moorhead and U-Mary by 7-2 scores at Winona Tennis Center.

MSUM 7, WSU 2

The Warriors picked up wins at the top and bottom of its singles lineup with a pair of three-set victories against the Dragons. Justine Daane at No. 1 singles defeated MSUM's Jessamy Jones with a back-and-forth 7-5, 1-6, 11-9 victory, while Lauren Willkom at No. 6 singles earned a similar tight victory, dropping the first set 5-7 before rallying for a 6-1 second-set win and a 14-12 win in a tiebreak.

In yet another lengthy tiebreak, Rachel Gantz came up just short at No. 2 singles, falling 7-6, 5-7, 16-14 while Gantz and Daane also were narrowly edged out with a 9-8 loss at No. 1 doubles.

Katie Scruggs earned WSU's lone singles victory at the No. 5 spot, shaking off a rough second set to defeat the Marauders' Eileen Long in a tiebreak, 6-2, 0-6, 10-4. The Warriors dropped two other singles matches in tiebreaks, with Rachel Gantz falling 6-4, 0-6, 10-2 and Lauren Willkom falling 6-0, 1-6, 10-4.

Gantz and Justine Daane also teamed up to earn an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.

The Warriors (2-11, 2-9 NSIC) host a pair of nonconference matches next Friday and Saturday against Luther and St. Norbert at Winona Tennis Center.
