GREEN BAY, Wis. – Winona State (9-4) won both matches on Sunday, beating St. Norbert 6-3 before taking down Edgewood 8-1. The have now won four straight matches, their second winning streak of at least four this season.
In the match with St. Norbert, the Warriors took a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches.
Kaisey Skibba and
Justine Daane won 8-6 in the number one spot.
Kendra Kappes and
Rachel Gantz won 8-3 in the number two spot to give the Warriors the one point edge.
The Warriors were able to take control of the match by winning four singles matches, sweeping the 3-6 matchups. Kappes did not lose a game, winning 6-0, 6-0 from the number four spot. Card also did not lose a game winning 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth spot. Gantz would win 6-2, 6-0 from the number three spot and
Katie Scruggs won 6-1, 7-5 from the five spot.
Against Edgewood the Warriors picked up eight wins. Winona State started the match by sweeping Edgewood in the doubles portion. Skibba and Daane teamed up again, this time winning 8-5. Gantz and Kappes did not lose a game, winning 8-0. In the third spot Card and Scruggs would pick up the 8-3 victory.
In the singles matches the Warriors were able to quickly dispatch EC. Skibba and Kappes would both win their matches 6-0, 6-0. Gantz won 6-0, 6-1 and Card won 6-1, 6-1. Scruggs picked up the final victory of the day, winning 6-0, 7-5.
