ST. PETER, Minn. / KEARNEY, Neb. – Winona State track and field was split up on Saturday, competing at both the Lee Krough Invite in St. Peter, Minnesota and the Loper Invite in Kearney, Nebraska.
Nicole Nelson set an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the hammer throw. The Warriors won six events in total of Saturday.
Lee Krough Challenge
Megan Seidl won the 200 meters in a time of 24.20 seconds, setting a stadium record in the process. Right behind her was
Brittany Schyvinck who was second with a time of 24.57 seconds. Seidl went two-for-two, winning the 400 meter dash in a time of 55.36 seconds. Schyvinck was third with a time of 57.12 seconds.
Kaitlyn Long won the shot put, throwing a 13.10 meters/42-11.75 feet.
Shelby Miller was fourth in the event with a toss of 12.19 meters/40-0 feet. Long also won the hammer with a throw of 50.54 meters/165-10 feet.
Ali Johnson took first in the 800 meter run, winning with a time of 2:15.76.
Katherine Vergeront ran a 20:15.38 in the 5,000 meter run, taking fourth place.
The Warriors took three of the top four spots in the 100 meter hurdles.
Olivia Fixsen was the top Warrior, finishing second with a time of 14.87 seconds.
Desirae Moss was third and
Amanda Letsinger was fourth.
Kari Schneiss just missed winning the 400 meter hurdles by .6 seconds as she took second in a time of 1:03.90. Fixsen was third with a time of 1:04.58.
Tamara Price was fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.50 meters/4-11 feet.
Loper Invite
Hailey Deschaine won the long jump, making a mark in the dirt at 5.86 meters/19-2.75 feet. She edged out teammates
Tamika Tucker,
Amanda Schaefer and Juresh. Tucker was second, Schaefer was fourth and Juresh was fifth. Tucker's jump was fourth best in WSU history. Schaefer's mark is tied for eighth in program history.
Juresh took second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.31 seconds. She had another top-three finish, taking third in the javelin with a throw of 36.96 meters/121-03 feet.
Tucker also took second in the triple jump, marking an 11.50 meters/37-8.75 feet. It was the sixth best mark in WSU history.
Schaeffer was third in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 1.63 meters/5-4.25 feet. She also took third in the triple jump.
Heather Buckler threw 14.44 meters/47-4.50 feet in the shot put to take third.
Kathleen Taylor was fourth with her throw of 14.01 meters/45-11.75 feet.
Taylor took fourth in the discus with her throw of 47.85 meters/157-00 feet. Buckler finished right behind her in fifth. Taylor's throw was sixth all-time in WSU program history.
Nicole Nelson set a new personal best and threw the second best throw in program history while taking fourth in the hammer with a mark of 59.85 meters/196-04 feet. The throw was also good enough to qualify for the NCAA Championships automatically.
Erin Perkins finished fifth with a toss of 56.35 meters/184-10 feet.
