MINNETONKA, Minn. – Winona State (14-7) advanced to the NSIC Championships after beating St. Cloud State 5-2 in the semifinals. The Warriors took on Augustana in the NSIC Championship where they fell 5-0 to the Vikings. The 14 wins are the most in a season for the Warriors since 2013.
In the doubles matches on Sunday morning, Winona State took a big 3-0 lead.
Justine Daane and
Kaisey Skibba won 8-5 to start the day.
Kendra Kappes and
Rachel Gantz won 8-4 giving WSU a 2-0 lead. In the final doubles match of the day
Katie Scruggs and
Tayla Card won 8-7 (7-5).
St. Cloud State tried to make a comeback winning the first singles match. Skibba got WSU back in the win column, winning 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. After the Warriors lost in the sixth spot in the singles Daane secured the win for the Warriors. In the two spot in the lineup Danne won 6-2, 6-4.
Augustana took a commanding 3-0 lead when the swept the doubles portion of the championship match. The Warriors never recovered as the Vikings went on to win 5-0.
