LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Winona State University tennis team began the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule with a pair of matches on Saturday.
The Warriors dropped a 6-3 match to Wisconsin-La Crosse before toppling Wisconsin-River Falls, 8-1.
The team of Rachel Gantz and Kendra Kappes scored Winona's lone doubles win against UWL. The duo posted a 9-7 victory at doubles #2.
Gantz and Kappes continued their success in the match by each scoring singles wins. Gantz was a 0-6, 7-5, 10-6 winner at singles #1, and Kappes notched a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at singles #4.
Those Warriors remained undefeated on the day by again winning their doubles match against River Falls, and closing out their dominant showing with singles wins as well.
The teams of Kaisey Skibba and Justine Daane (doubles #1), and Caitlin Anderson and Tayla Card (doubles #3) proceeded to make it a clean sweep over River Falls in doubles action.
Daane (singles #3), Card (singles #5) and Anderson (singles #6) each produced wins in singles competition as well.
Winona State (1-1) continues its fall schedule on Friday, October 6 at Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
