Warrior tennis faces Mankato, Southwest Minnesota State

OWATONNA, Minn. – The Winona State University tennis team will take on Minnesota State Mankato and Southwest Minnesota State University this weekend in a pair of neutral site conference matches.

The Warriors and Mavericks face off Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. WSU then opposes SMSU on Sunday evening at 6 p.m.

Winona State, picked to finish second in the NSIC preseason poll, is off to a 3-2 start (2-0 NSIC) in the 2017-18 season. The Warriors swept Minnesota Crookston, 9-0, to open conference play last weekend and followed that up with a 6-3 win over Bemidji State.

Kendra Kappes is 5-0 in singles action (No. 4) this season. The sophomore and her partner Rachel Gantz are 4-1 in doubles play (No. 2). Gantz owns a 4-1 singles record (No. 2) as well.

Senior Kali Hackmann went undefeated in her singles debut (No. 6) last week, and also went 2-0 in doubles action (No. 3) with teammate Tayla Card.

The Warriors host St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth in their first home matches of the season next weekend on February 24-25. Following their home opening weekend, Winona State will travel to Orlando, Florida on March 4-7 for four matches.
