WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University squares off against Minnesota State Mankato on Saturday morning in the opening match of the NSIC postseason tournament at 9 a.m. The Warriors are the two seed in the tournament and the Mavericks are the seven seed.
The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal match will advance to a semifinal match on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. The championship match is slated for Sunday at noon.
Augustana University (18-3, 11-0), the regular season champions, are the number one seed and have won 99 straight NSIC matches entering the postseason tournament.
The Warriors (13-2, 10-1 NSIC) have defeated every other team on their side of the bracket this season, including an 8-1 win over Mankato (5-11, 4-6 NSIC). WSU also owns 6-3 wins over both Sioux Falls and Minnesota Moorhead from the regular season.
Winona State has reached the tournament championship match three times in the past seven years, including last where, where Augustana has prevailed victorious in each meeting.
Seniors Justine Daane, Rachel Gantz, Kali Hackmann and Lauren Willkom will look to extend their Warrior careers with another solid run in the postseason tournament. The Warriors 10 conference wins this season were their most since 2013.
