BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Winona State University's Nick Pridgeon has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Defensive Player of the Week. He earns the award for the first time this season and second time in his career.
The senior linebacker led the Warrior defense with a season-high 12 tackles (6 solo) in a 41-13 triumph at Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday. Pridgeon also had 2.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks as WSU recorded a season-best seven sacks in the victory. For his efforts, Pridgeon was named the "Battle for the Sledge" Game MVP.
The defensive captain was named the 2019 NSIC South Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and has helped lead the Warriors to five straight wins. The Warriors rank fourth this season among all Division II teams in interceptions (17) and are 13th in turnovers gained (21).
Winona State (7-2) hosts Augustana University (7-2) in a pivotal matchup on Saturday that will help shape the postseason fates for both teams. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Senior Day at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
