Warriors sweep weekend matches in St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Winona State University women's tennis team remained undefeated in conference play with a pair of weekend wins over Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. The Warriors defeated the Bulldogs on Friday night, 5-2, before downing the Huskies on Sunday, 6-1.

Winona State took the early 1-0 edge against Duluth by winning two of three doubles matches for the team points. No. 1 Kaisey Skibba and Beth Murman posted a flawless 6-0 victory while No. 3 Caitlin Anderson and Mya Lubben were 7-5 winners to secure the point heading into singles play.

The Warriors then scored four wins in singles action. Murman (No. 1), Kendra Kappes (No. 2), Tayla Card (No. 3) and Anderson (No. 6) were each victorious.

The road trip finale would get off to a familiar start with WSU taking an early advantage with a pair of wins at doubles for a 1-0 team lead. Card and Kappes (No. 2) and the team of Lubben and Anderson (No. 3) each recorded 6-4 wins.

Murman rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win at singles No. 1 and the Warriors rolled from there. Kappes remained undefeated this season at singles No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph. Skibba (No. 3), Card (No. 4) and Anderson (No. 6) each rattled off victories to conclude the match.

Winona State improves to 4-1 (4-0 NSIC) with the weekend sweep.

The Warriors return home to the Winona Tennis Center next weekend for matches against Sioux Falls and Augustana University on February 22-23.
