Winona State drops Florida finale at Eckerd College

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Winona State University tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback Wednesday evening in the final match of its spring break road trip at Eckerd College. Tayla Card scored the lone Warrior point at Singles No. 4.

Card tallied a 6-2, 6-3 victory to improve to 8-5 overall this season in singles play. Her and teammate Kendra Kappes also recorded a 6-1 win at Doubles No. 2, but Eckerd earned the overall doubles' team point with wins in the other two matches. The triumph improved the Warrior duo to 5-6 on the year.

Beth Murman and Kaisey Skibba had their four-match winning streak ended at Doubles No. 1 with a 6-1 loss while the team of Caitlin Anderson and Myra Lubben suffered a 6-3 defeat.

At Singles No. 2, Kappes was edged by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 9-11, and Skibba was bested by a 6-7, 4-6 decision which included a tiebreaker in the first set of a hard-fought match.

Standing at 6-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play, the Warriors will return to NSIC action at home on Saturday, March 23 against Upper Iowa University.
