RESTED & READY: The Warriors come into the NSIC Tournament with nearly two full weeks off since their last match. Last time out, Winona State served up wins at home against both Bemidji State (6-1) and Minnesota Crookston (7-0). WSU is riding a three-match winning streak against conference foes heading into the postseason tournament.
TOURNEY TIME: The third-seeded Warriors will take on sixth-seeded Sioux Falls in the opening round of the 2019 NSIC Tournament. Awaiting the winner of this match will be the winner of the quarterfinals matchup between #2 MSU Moorhead and #7 Bemidji State. The semifinals are set for Sunday, April 14 at 8 a.m. with the championship match slated to follow at noon. All matches will be played Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka, Minnesota. WSU has reached the semifinals in each of the last two seasons and made its way to the championship tilt in 2017.
ABOUT SIOUX FALLS: The Cougars (7-8, 6-5 NSIC) have won two straight outings entering the tournament. Winona State defeated the Cougars of Sioux Falls earlier this season, 5-2, and have won three straight head-to-head matchups.
DYNAMIC DUOS: Winona State owns a 25-22 (19-13 NSIC) record in doubles competition this year entering the tournament. No. 1 Beth Murman and Kaisey Skibba have gone 12-4 (8-3 NSIC) followed by the No. 2 team of Tayla Card and Kendra Kappes (9-7, 7-4 NSIC). The duo of Caitlin Anderson and Mya Lubben have scored all three of their team wins during conference play.
STACKED DECK: Junior Tayla Card led WSU during the regular season with an 11-5 (7-4 NSIC) record at Singles No. 4. Following closely behind in the win column is Singles No. 3 participant Kaisey Skibba (10-6, 8-3 NSIC). Card enters the weekend riding a five-match winning streak in singles competition.
FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH: With Beth Murman leading the way at Singles & Doubles No. 1, the Warriors have gotten plenty of contributions for their freshman class this season. Last weekend, Brooke Holloway and Mya Lubben notched their first singles wins of the season. Faith Young has been the Warriors' starter at Singles No. 5 throughout the year and has posted four wins. Winona State's roster of eight does not contain a single senior which has the Warriors poised for another successful season heading into 2019-20 with a young, but veteran core.
