WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's soccer team ventures on a road trip for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches, as the Warriors take on MSU Moorhead on Friday, Oct. 22 and Northern State on Sunday, Oct. 24.
The Warriors (4-7-1, 3-6-1 NSIC) are coming off a nice homestand, where they tied nationally ranked Bemidji State and defeated Minnesota Crookston. This weekend, WSU will be looking to capture their first road wins of the season.
The MSU Moorhead Dragons (0-13, 0-10 NSIC) have had a tough go at it this season, as they are still looking for their first win. The Dragons have been held to just two goals on the year. Anna Steadland and Mckenzie Ickert have been their biggest offensive threats having 12 and eight shots on goal, respectively. Kayleigh Sedlacek has been MSU Moorhead's main goalkeeper, with 75 saves on 99 shots.
The Northern State Wolves (5-4-3, 4-3-3 NSIC) are currently found in seventh place in the NSIC, five points ahead of the Warriors, who are in 11th. The Wolves are riding a three-game unbeaten streak, which includes two ties and most recently, a 2-0 win over SMSU. Megan Fastenau leads Northern State with six goals and 13 shots on goal. DeAnna LeMire has 11 shots on goal as the Wolves other key offensive threat. Alexis Townsend has started all 12 games in net, saving 69 of 82 shots on goal.
The Warriors, with hopes of moving up the NSIC standings this weekend, are looking to build off strong play as of late.
Riley Harmon has found the back of the net four times this season, which leads WSU. Four Warriors have scored two goals, and four others have scored one goal.
Ellie Wardell leads the team with four assists.
Yanel Ortiz and
Alyson Jumper have shared time in net for Winona State, and each boast a save percentage of over .800.
