WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University volleyball team, currently ranked No. 8 in the nation, is set to host Minnesota State, Mankato this evening, Nov. 3. First serve is scheduled for 6pm at McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
The Warriors (21-3, 12-3 NSIC) moved up to No. 8 in the weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association poll after defeating Upper Iowa on the road in a tough environment, and then taking down No. 7 Concordia-St. Paul at home.
On top of great team success last week,
Bre Maloney and
Becca Pagel earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) weekly honors after their impressive play. Maloney was named NSIC Setter of the Week and Pagel earned the Defensive Player of the Week award.
Pagel currently leads the NSIC in total digs (443) and digs per set (5.15). Maloney ranks second in the league amassing 11.28 assists per set.
Sidney Paulson is also coming off an impressive week where she tallied 28 kills, including a game-high 16 against CSP.
Megan Flom has been phenomenal all season, hitting for 3.93 kills per set with a .426 hitting percentage.
Minnesota State (11-12, 6-9 NSIC) is on a current losing streak of five matches, most recently falling to Upper Iowa 3-1. The Warriors and Mavericks squared off on Sept. 21 in Mankato, Minn., where WSU won the match in dominant fashion 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-19).
With a win tonight, Winona State would move into a tie with CSP for second in the NSIC standings and would be two games behind St. Cloud State for first. The Warriors boast the best overall record in the conference as they are the only team with more than 20 wins.
