Winona State women's track & field claims second place in Mankato

Mankato, Minn. - Winona State University traveled to Mankato to take part in the President Davenport Open, a triangular meet hosted by Minnesota State and including the University of Minnesota Duluth.  The Warriors turned in several strong performances in Myers Fieldhouse as Winona State looks towards the NSIC Indoor Championships later this month.

Brooklyn Schyvinck won the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 56.43, while teammate Kalley Harris finished third at 57.40.  Lindsay Cunningham and McKenna Taylor took second and third in the women's 1-mile run, turning in times of 5:11.55 and 5:12.79.  Kendall Zeman claimed a second place finish in the women's 600-meter run at 1:39.12 and the Warriors' Xana Leum earned a fourth place mark in the 60-meter hurdles, running a 9.48 time. Also in the sprints, Michaela Pryor ran a 7.76 in the women's 60 meter race. Pryor also had a third place finish in the 200-meters at 25.12.

Schyvinck's 400-meter time currently places her second nationally in that event, and the junior from Reedsburg, Wis. is currently #1 among NSIC competitors.

Kaylee Beyer claimed a first-place finish for WSU in the women's 800-meter run, clocking a 2:19.25, narrowly beating out UMD's Elizabeth Kyes for the honors.  One of the best overall events for the Winona State women was the 3000-meter run, where Alli Hendrickson and Taya Herrera took the No. 1 and No.2 spots, while Carly Vandenhouten finished fourth.

Two feature performances on the day was the Winona State 4X400 relay beating the Minnesota-Duluth 4X400 squad in a two-team race, with the Warriors running a 3:54.81 to best the Bulldogs. Winona State also dominated in the women's high jump, with Madison Rizner taking first place at 5'4" (1.64) and teammate Kaylee Olson hitting the same mark to finish third.  In the women's triple jump, Ashlie Lockington, Rizner, Kaylee Patnode and Xana Leum swept the top four spots, at 11.35, 11.33, 11.01 and 10.97, respectively.

Overall for the event, the Warrior women's track and field team earned 55 points, taking second behind Minnesota State with 94 and ahead of Minnesota-Duluth at 21.
