WSU Tennis adds contests to 2021 schedule; Warriors set to host UW-Eau Claire Saturday

Winona, Minn. - The Winona State University women's tennis team added a pair of matches to their 2021 schedule recently, and the Warriors will face off against the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire on Saturday, March 6.   The WSU - UW-Eau Claire match will start at 5pm at the Winona Tennis Center. 

Winona State (4-2 / 4-2 NSIC) is currently on a three-match winning streak, having beat Bemidji State and the University of Minnesota Crookston last weekend by 6-1 and 7-0 scores, respectively.  As a team, WSU has competed solely in NSIC matches up to this point, and currently are fifth in the league; MSU Moorhead (6-0) Augustana (5-0), and Southwest Minnesota State (4-0) are unbeaten and at the top of the standings, while the University of Mary (5-1) is fourth.  

Individually, Rachel Kelly and Rina Niehoff are both 5-1 on the season to lead the Warriors in singles action.  In doubles play, the combination of Sara Anderson and Faith Young is 5-0 and Kelly and Niehoff have teamed up to go 5-1 so far in 2021. 

UW-Eau Claire (1-0) defeated UW-Superior 9-0 on Saturday, Feb. 27 in their only action this season.  In their last meeting on Oct. 4, 2019, Winona State defeated the BluGolds, 7-2 in a match at UW-EC.  In addition to tomorrow's recently added match, WSU will host the University of Wisconsin - River Falls on Sunday, March 21 at 5:30pm.
