Box Score SARTELL, Minn. - The Winona State University women's tennis team defeated the University of Minnesota Duluth, 4-3 on Saturday, to move to 9-3 overall and 8-2 in NSIC play.
Winona State got off to a strong start, claiming the doubles point and going up 1-0 with wins at #2 and #3 doubles.
Starting the success in singles play for the Warriors was
Beth Murman with a 6-0, 6-1 win over UMD's Sophie Lynch at #1 singles.
Rachel Kelly defeated Natalie Cahill, 6-3, 6-3, at the #2 singles spot and the Warriors clinched the match when
Brooke Jorgensen won a three-set thriller, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 over the Bulldog's Emily Rahrik.
Rina Niehoff also went three sets, winning 7-6 (3), 5-7, 7-6 (5) to complete the key NSIC win.
Minnesota Duluth's Isabel Thiner dealt WSU's
Sara Anderson a 6-7 (5), 2-6 setback, and the Bulldogs' Shay Callaway defeated Winona State's
Audrey Delich at #4 singles.
Winona State will face St. Cloud State tomorrow at 1pm in the second and final match of their road trip, and in the last NSIC regular season match of the year.
