Winona State women's tennis returns to the courts

Winona, Minn. - After a two-week break in their schedule, the Winona State University women's tennis team will return to action this weekend as they travel to St. Cloud, Minn. for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matches.

On Saturday, April 10, the Warriors (8-3 / 7-2 NSIC) will take on the University of Minnesota Duluth (3-5 / 3-5 NSIC) beginning at 5pm at the Stay-Fit tennis center in Sartell, Minn.  The following day, WSU will face St. Cloud State University (4-7 / 2-6 NSIC) at the same facility, with a 1pm start time.

Winona State has won their last four matches and have not lost a NSIC matchup since February 20, when they lost a close 4-3 match to Minnesota State - Moorhead. The Warriors, under first-year head coach Tom Sanvik, are currently tied for third in the NSIC standings, with only Southwest Minnesota State (6-1 NSIC) and Augustana (7-0) boasting better records.

Two WSU student-athletes are at the top of their respective singles classification in the NSIC ranks; at #2 singles, Rachel Kelly is 10-1 and Rina Niehoff is also 10-1 at #3 singles so far on the season.  Beth Murman, the Warriors #1 singles selection, was named NSIC Player of the Week in sixth week of the WSU campaign.

The matches this weekend represent the final NSIC regular-season competition for Winona State. The Warriors will complete the home portion of their season on Friday, April 16 when they host Luther College in a tune-up for the NSIC Women's Tennis tournament, conducted between April 23-25 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
