Box Score PUERTO RICO - The Winona State University women's basketball team moved to 2-0 in 2022-23 Warrior season with a 58-55 win over the University of West Alabama in their second of three games played in Puerto Rico.
Winona State received a trio of double-digit performances in the Warrior win.
Lauren Fech scored 18 points to pace WSU, while
Caitlin Riley added 14 and
Emma Carpenter 12.
Alex Dornfeld led Winona State under the glass with eight rebounds, while chipping in six points.
Winona State was down 12-10 after the first quarter, but came to life in the second stanza, outscoring UWA, 21-12 to take a 31-24 lead into the locker room at the break. West Alabama turned the tables after halftime, hitting for 20 points in the third quarter, but WSU pulled away in the fourth frame for the 58-55 victory.
As a team, Winona State was 12-of-15 at the free-throw line and hit 8-of-28 from behind the arc. Overall, the Warriors shot 19-of-53 (37.3%) from the floor and notched seven steals in the game.
Winona State (2-0, 0-0 NSIC) is set to play the University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 13 in the final contest of the season-opening trip. WSU and UPR-PR will tip off at 2 p.m. AST / Noon CST.
