WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's basketball team has earned a nod from the D2SIDA regional rankings committee, following a weekend in which
Alex Dornfeld and
Lauren Fech were named to the Quincy University Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic All-Tournament team.
Winona State (5-0, 0-0 NSIC) is ranked seventh in the current D2SIDA weekly poll and is coming off a 2-0 weekend in Illinois where the Warriors beat McKendree University 64-50 and Quincy University 65-62 in overtime. Following the tournament, junior forward
Alex Dornfeld earned the Most Outstanding Player award and was joined on the All-Tournament by senior guard
Lauren Fech. Dornfeld produced back-to-back double-double days in the tournament, scoring a career-high 24 points and hauling in 12 rebounds against the QU Hawks and notching 18 points against McKendree. Fech found success against Quincy to the tune of 20 points, including a 7-of-8 effort at the foul line. Against McKendree, Fech scored five points, dished out four assists and pulled in four rebounds.
Winona State is one of four NSIC programs in the November 21 D2SIDA regional poll. The Warriors are one of just two teams with a 5-0 record to the start the season, joining No. 1 ranked Missouri Southern State.
WSU will open up NSIC action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 with a 7:30 contest against Upper Iowa University in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
