ST. PETER, Minn. – The Winona State University women's tennis team is set to play three matches within 20 hours, starting with a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) showdown at 6pm this evening against Southwest Minnesota State. WSU will then serve it up against Minnesota State and Gustavus Adolphus College tomorrow, Feb. 26, with all matches will being played at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter, Minn.
The Warriors (4-2, 3-1 NSIC) are coming off a weekend sweep on the road over Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston, which moved them to 3-1 in league play. Winona State has won the crucial doubles point in their last four matches and will look to continue strong doubles play this weekend.
Southwest Minnesota State is currently 3-1 in the NSIC heading into the weekend, with their only loss being to perennial power, Augustana. SMSU and WSU have each defeated Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston in similar fashion, but the Warriors earned one more point in each victory.
Minnesota State is also 3-1 in the conference, with their lone loss coming to Augustana. The Mavericks defeated the Beavers and Golden Eagles with the same team scores as Winona State. WSU and MSU will face off at 9am on Saturday, Feb. 26.
Winona State will wrap up their three-match weekend against a Division III opponent, Gustavus Adolphus College. GAC is 2-1 on the season, with all three matches being sweeps. They defeated both Northwestern (Iowa) and Saint Mary's University 9-0, but fell to Division I North Dakota 0-7. The Warriors and Gusties are scheduled to face off at 1pm on Saturday.
