WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's tennis team opens their 2022 season with a matchup against MSU Moorhead this evening, Feb. 4. First serve is set for 6:00pm at the Winona Tennis Center.
The Warriors and Dragons have a rivaled history, including two matches that came down to the wire a season ago. MSUM got the better of WSU in the regular season, but Winona State defeated MSU Moorhead, 4-3, in the 2021 NSIC Tournament semifinals.
Heading into the 2022 season, the Warriors were selected to finish second and the Dragons were voted to finish sixth in the recent NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
WSU is led by veteran returners
Beth Murman,
Rachel Kelly, and
Rina Niehoff who all played key roles in last year's NSIC Tournament runner-up finish.
Brooke Jorgensen,
Brooke Holloway, and NSIC Player to Watch,
Sara Anderson, all return valuable experience as well in a deep Warrior roster.
Tom Sanvik will look to begin his second season as the Warriors head coach with a pair of wins this weekend, as WSU will also host the University of Mary on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3:30pm.
