Warrior Game Day: Baseball

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Winona State University baseball team opens their season today with a doubleheader against Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo. First pitch will be at 1pm, and the backend of the doubleheader will follow the first game.

The Warriors finished the 2021 season 22-20 overall and earned a berth in the NSIC Tournament. Heading into the 2022 season, WSU was voted to finish seventh in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll, and they will look to earn their way back into the NSIC playoffs this season.

Derek Baumgartner and Dillon Whittaker were Winona State's NSIC players to watch heading into the season, as one of the strongest pitcher-catcher duos in the league. Winona State returns many experienced returners to this year's squad and head coach, Kyle Poock, will be able to use these early-season games to evaluate the depth of the Warrior lineup as WSU tunes up for conference play in March.

Winona State is at Missouri Southern for a three-game series, as they will play two games today and cap off the series tomorrow, Feb. 8 at 1pm.
