Warrior Game Day : Baseball

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Winona State University baseball team returns to the field today for a single nine-inning game at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo., as the Warriors and Lions face off at 1pm.

The Warriors (0-2, 0-0 NSIC) dropped two games to MSSU (2-1, 0-0 MIAA) yesterday, losing game one 13-1 and falling in the nightcap, 15-9.

Cooper Kapanke was a one-man offensive highlight reel, hitting three home runs across the two games, including a grand slam in game two that helped WSU draw to within a pair of runs at 8-6 MSSU in the sixth inning. The junior infielder from Eau Claire, Wis. collected seven RBI on the day, while Warrior teammate Derek Baumgartner was 2-for-5 with a walk and a double.  Carter Brinkman and Jess Ondell both had a pair of hits and one RBI each on the day.

On the mound on Monday, Winona State saw John Breske throw a scoreless final frame in game one and Cameron Kramer struck out five batters in his 4 and 1/3 innings of work as a starter in game two.

On Tuesday, Winona State will look to break into the win column at Warren Turner Field in Joplin, Mo.  Weather conditions call for a high 60 degrees as the two teams tangle for the last time in the three-game series.
