St. PAUL - With first-place finishes by
Kennedy O'Connor and
Breanna Ho leading the way, the Winona State University women's gymnastics team won the Hamline University Triangular on Sunday, Jan. 8, scoring 182.625 points to take top honors.
The Warriors and head coach
Stephanie Geislinger saw O'Connor win the vault with a score of 9.675, besting Simpson College's Kaelyn Tally who scored a 9.625 in finishing second. O'Connor - who earned the 2022 NCGA National Championship in the vault - was joined in first-place finishes by Warrior teammate
Breanna Ho, who won both the uneven parallel bars (9.350) and the All Around (36.950), while also finishing as the runner-up on the balance beam with a score of 9.550.
Overall, Winona State claimed four of the top five spots in the bars, with
Kaylee Bateman (3rd, 9.255),
Kayla Miller (4th, 9.050) and
Sydney Parsons (5th, 9.025) all producing strong performances. In the beam,
Ava Gaudet also was a top-five finisher, tying Simpson's Izzy Brown with a score of 9.350 to finish fourth in the event.
Izzy Kropiwiec was the top Warrior competitor in the floor exercise, finishing in a tie for third.
Jessica Miley earned a third-place spot in the vault, scoring a 9.450, just ahead of Kropiwiec at 9.375, good for fourth place.
As a team, WSU's 182.625 pushed host Hamline to second place at 181.475, while Simpson College scored 180.500 to finish third. The meet marked the second-straight road competition for Winona State, having taken part in the Best of Minnesota meet at the University of Minnesota on Friday.
Winona State is set for their home opener on Friday, Jan. 13, when the Warriors host the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and the University of Wisconsin Stout. The WIAC Triangular will start at 6 p.m. in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
