SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Winona State University football team will look to get back on the winning track when the Warriors take on the University of Sioux Falls in a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Cougars on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Bob Young Field.
Winona State (3-4, 3-3 NSIC) will look to rebound from a 48-28 loss Augustana last Saturday and will face off with a Cougars team that also lost last week, falling 53-40 to MSU Moorhead. USF (3-4, 3-4 NSIC), has played their last two games on the road and return home for the first time this October.
Saturday's WSU – USF matchup will be an opportunity for the Warriors to continue their recent success against Sioux Falls; Winona State has won four of the last five meetings between the two teams.
Winona State – Sioux Falls Notables
- Saturday's contest is the 10th meeting of the two schools since Oct. 6, 2012.
- The WSU - USF game in 2022 was won by the Warriors, 20-17 in front of 4,587 fans.
- Winona State is led in scoring by placekicker Jacob Scott. Scott has 49 total points this year, leading the team (10 FG's, 19-of-19 in PATs).
- WSU opened well against the Vikings last week, racing out to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter.
- Winona State's QB Cole Stenstrom is 126-of-218 with 13 TDs and 9 interceptions.
- Winona State has top-5 performer in tackles within the NSIC, with Clay Schueffner racking up 52 stops so far this year.
- The Warriors have one of the top multi-tool players in the NSIC, with Tristan Root ranking 18th in the league in tackles (40) while averaging 41.2 yards per punt and a league-best 12 kicks inside the 20.
- WSU's Joseph Demro has accumulated four sacks on the year, while Kyjuan Vengrowsky has 3.5.
- On Saturday, Winona State will face the 7th-rated offense in the league. USF scores 29.6 points per game. WSU is 9th at 23.6 points per outing.

Cougar Considerations
USF lost 53-40 at Minnesota State - Moorhead last week.
Cougar quarterback Camden Dean surpassed a 27-year-old USF record with 463 passing yards versus the Dragons.
In the same game, Carter Slykhuis set a USF Division II era mark with 206 receiving yards and a new Cougar reception record with 18 grabs.
Defensively, Eli Schlangen is the top Cougar tackler with 38 tackles this season. Matt Goehring is second in the squad with 34 stops.
USF's top rushing threat is Dylan Rudningen. The Cougar tailback has six TDs and 517 rushing yards on the season.
At quarterback, Dean has 453 rushing yards and five scores. Dean has amassed 12 touchdown passes, including six against Dragons. Overall, Dean has 1,461 passing yards on 190 attempts.
Mark Leonard joins Slyhuis as the top two USF receivers. Slykhuis heads into today's game with 671 yards, 60 catches and three scores. Leonard has racked up 357 yards on 29 catches with four touchdowns.
