WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University soccer team celebrated Senior Day before kickoff against St. Cloud State on Sunday, Oct. 29 and an intense contest between the Warriors and Huskies ended in a 1-1 draw in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Winona State battled back to earn a point in the NSIC standings against the league-leading St Cloud State side, taking advantage of a
Quinn Williams header from a
Reanne Weil corner kick to knot the game at 1-1 in the first half.

How it Happened
WSU honored six seniors prior to the match with
Sara Charboneau,
Morgan Liebau,
Caylee Ludwig,
Madyson Dye,
Hannah Dunlavy, and
Reanne Weil all getting the start for Winona State on Sunday.
The match turned physical early on, with Winona State's
Madyson Dye being booked on a yellow card in the 19th minute of play. Although SCSU sent the subsequent free kick over the Warrior goal and WSU goalkeeper
Anna Lundeen, the moment proved to be a sign of things to come.
Minutes later, a foul on SCSU's Ellie Primerano created a free kick opportunity in a wide position for the Huskies. Primerano's cross eventually found it's way to teammate Ariel Hawkey who tapped it home to give the visiting Huskies a 1-0 lead.
Following the SCSU goal, Winona State increased it's attacking intensity and was rewarded with a corner kick in 27th minute, the first corner for either team in the match.
On the second Warrior corner kick of the game, Winona State would score the equalizing goal when
Quinn Williams headed home a
Reanne Weil corner kick to move the scoreboard to 1-1 five minutes remaining in the first half.
WSU would go on to see
Sarah Strating force a good save by SCSU goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland in the 42nd minute, followed quickly by an
Anna Lundeen save on Kira Sosinske just one minute later.
The two teams would head to the locker room tied at one goal apiece.
At the Half: Winona State 1, St. Cloud State 1
Reanne Weil nearly put Winona State up 2-1 just seconds into the second half, driving a left-footed shot on goal shortly after the kickoff. Weil's effort forced SCSU's GK Strickland to dive to her left, making a key save on the Warrior senior.
The match continued to intensify, with the center official eventually cautioning the Warrior sideline in the 48th minute.
The two teams traded shots and fouls throughout the middle of the final 45; in the 53rd minute, Winona State head coach JIll Leibforth was booked on a yellow card.
Winona State would go on to earn a pair of corner kicks near the one-hour mark, but SCSU's Strickland and the Huskie defense was able to clear both opportunities from danger.
SCSU earned a pair of corner kicks just passed the 65th minute mark.
Anna Lundeen was able to make a save on SCSU's Ellie Primerano following the second corner kick, while WSU's
Morgan Liebau was booked with the sixth yellow card of the match just prior to the SCSU restart opportunity.
Johanna Shubert tested Strickland with a shot on goal just passed the 75 minute mark. After Shubert and Weil were whistled for back-to-back fouls in the midfield, WSU's
Jill Leibforth was issued a red card by the center official, forcing the head coach to leave the match.
Winona State would go to create a two more scoring opportunities late in the game with a pair of corner kicks, but saw both shot attempts go wide of the goal. SCSU had the final shot of the game, Linsey Trapino missing the mark in the 86th minute.
In the end, neither team could produce a game-winner, leaving the Huskies and Warriors tied at 1-1 in an NSIC stalemate. The draw set Winona State's record and 2-7-7 overall, 1-6-6 in the NSIC. SCSU ledger moved to 12-3-2 overall, 9-2-2 in league play.

Winona State's freshman goalkeeper
Anna Lundeen is unbeaten in her first two collegiate starts, earning back-to-back draws against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State.
The Weil-to-Williams corner kick goal marks the second time this season that WSU found the back of the net on that particular restart and personnel combination.
In claiming the seventh tie of the season, the 2023 Winona State squad has the most draws in the NSIC. Both Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth have tied six matches so far this year.
