ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Winona State University women's cross country team placed fourth at the Lewis Crossover Invite on Saturday, Oct. 7, in Romeoville, Ill. At Lewis, Lindsay Cunningham and Kaylee Beyer picked up where they left off placing first and second place, respectively. The two WSU standouts took the top two places at the 2023 Greeno Dirksen Invite in mid-September, where Cunningham claimed the individual championship and Beyer was runner up.
On Saturday, Cunningham won the women's race with a time of 20:06.8 and Warrior teammate Beyer ran a 21:02.9 performance with a gutsy effort to hold off Klaudia O'Malley of Grand Valley State University. O'Malley placed third with a time of 21:06.2, finishing less than four seconds behind Beyer.
WSU's Sophia Taarud finished 25th with a time of 21:50.3, while Winona State's Kylie Anderson finished just outside of the top 50 with a time of 22:27.0 placing 52nd. Rounding out WSU's top five was McKenna Taylor, who ran a time of 23:00.5 on the day.
As a program, the Winona State women's team earned 138 total points, falling just short of host Lewis University with 131 points. Grand Valley State was second in the event with a total score of 98. First place went to the Colorado School of Mines, with the best team score in the meet at 49 points.
The Winona State women's cross-country team is next in action on Saturday, Oct. 21 when the team travels to Bismarck, N.D. for a 10 a.m. start at the 2023 NSIC Cross Country Championships.
