La CROSSE, Wis. - The Winona State University track and field team competed at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse Indoor Eagle Open on Friday, Feb. 17, looking to tune up ahead of the NSIC Indoor Championships next weekend.
In La Crosse,
McKenna Taylor led the Warrior effort, winning the women's 3000 meters with a time of 10:06, crossing the finish line over 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Ripon's Mikayla Flyte, who finished in 10:39.47.
Rhya Brandemuehl (10:55.38) and
Andrea Fromelt (11:12.62) also competed in the 3000 meters, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively.
Rachel Hoffman claimed a runner-up finish in the mile run, turning in a time of 5:24.35 in the event; Warrior teammates
Kylie Anderson took sixth (5:31.38) and
Madeline Palmer was seventh (5:33.66). Loras College's Brianna Renner won the race with a time of 5:16.03.
In the 60 meter finals, WSU's
Courtney Lukas took sixth with a time of 8.07 and also competed in the 200 meters with a time of 26.92. and
Bellamy Sukalski was sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:23.92.
Competing with a partial squad, Winona State finished in fifth place, earning 33 points. Host Wisconsin La Crosse claimed top team honors with 171 points overall. WSU is in action next at the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships, held on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25 at Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn.
