Seth Wing era to start with 4-game series at Drury University

OZARK, Mo. - The Winona State University baseball team will kick off the Seth Wing era in a four-game series on the road at Drury University with all four contests held at U.S. Baseball Park.

On Friday, Feb. 24, WSU and Drury will play a single, 9-inning game beginning at 3 p.m.  Saturday, the two teams will play a 12pm/3pm doubleheader; the series will wrap up on Sunday, Feb. 26 with a single game, beginning at noon.

In 2023, Wing takes over for longtime head coach Kyle Poock who retired last summer. Wing comes to the Warriors having most recently served as the head baseball coach and athletic director at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Wing has served as the head baseball coach of the Rams since 2012 and has been the AD since July 2020.

Prior to his time at Cornell, Wing accrued collegiate coaching experience at Winona State where he served as an assistant coach between 2003 and 2011.  In his final three seasons with the Warriors, Wing was an associate head coach and a part of the program's most successful campaign when WSU advanced to the NCAA Division II World Series, earning the runner-up spot behind West Florida in the championship game.

The 2023 Winona State squad was picked and predicted to finish sixth in the NSIC baseball coaches' poll; in addition, Derek Baumgartner and Bailey Banaszynski, were tabbed as the Winona State Player and Pitcher to Watch, respectively.

Against Drury over the weekend, WSU will look to snap a three-game skid against the Panthers. Drury defeated Winona State in three contests to open the 2022 Warrior season last spring and have a 9-3 record over WSU over the last 12 games between the two schools.  In 2021, Winona State beat Drury 8-7 behind a 3-for-5 day at the plate by Baumgartner and a strong pitching performance by Kyle Gendron.

The Panthers bring a 5-2 record into the weekend showdown, owning a 3-0 record at home and a 2-2 mark on the road. Most recently, Drury lost at Missouri Southern, 13-5.
