Box Score WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's tennis team stepped out of NSIC play to take on NCAA Division I opponent Northern Illinois University on Sunday, Feb. 26.
The non-conference match saw the Huskies hand Winona State a 6-1 defeat at the Winona Tennis Center.
The Warriors fell in doubles, dropping all three matches to NIU.
Beth Murman and
Sara Anderson fell at No. 1 doubles, 6-1 while
Clara Thoemke and
Maddie Moe lost 6-0 at No. 3.
Rachel Kelly and
Ally Burger took two games off their NIU counterparts in No. 2 doubles play but were dealt a 6-2 setback.
In singles,
Rachel Kelly was up 7-5 after one set and had her opponent, Diana Lukyanova, retire due to injury, providing Winona State with a win at No. 2 .
In No. 1 singles action,
Beth Murman lost 6-1, 6-1, and
Ally Burger fell by a 6-1, 6-0 scoreline at No. 4 singles.
Miranda Daulong lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and
Clara Thoemke dropped the No. 6 contest at 6-1, 6-0.
Sara Anderson battled at No. 3 singles, eventually falling 6-3, 6-2.
Winona State (3-1, 3-0 NSIC) will compete next in the annual Warrior spring break trip, set for March 5-9 in Orlando, Florida.
