Winona State tennis falls to Sioux Falls; set to take on Vikings today

WINONA, Minn. -  The Winona State University tennis team fell to the University of Sioux Falls by a 5-2 scoreline on Friday, March 31 in the Winona Tennis Center. 

The University of Sioux Falls claimed the doubles point to open the match, winning the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles slots. Beth Murman and Sara Anderson teamed up to earn a Warrior win at No. 1 doubles, 6-3.

The Warriors saw the top of the lineup pick up wins, as No. 1 Beth Murman and No. 2 Rachel Kelly dispatched their Cougar opponents. Murman won 6-3, 6-2 over Talia Janos while Rachel Kelly battled back to beat Danielle Thorfinnson, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. 

USF would go on to win at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to pull away from Winona State. Sara Anderson fell 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3, while Ally Burger was dealt a 6-2, 6-0 setback at No. 4. Clara Thoemke lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 while Miranda Daulong fell 7-5, 6-0 at the No. 6 position. 

Winona State moved to 8-6 following the loss, while the University of Sioux Falls improved to 10-4. 

Winona State will look to rebound this evening against league-leading Augustana University in a 5:30 pm match.  The Vikings and Warriors will face off at the Winona Tennis Center.
