NSIC Tournament : Women's Tennis

SIOUX FALLS, S. D. - The Winona State University women's tennis team earned qualification for the 2023 NSIC Women's Tennis Tournament to be held April 21 - 23 at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Winona State enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed, parlaying a 6-1 win over Minnesota State Moorhead on the final day of the regular season into entry to the NSIC postseason.

The Warriors will square off against the No. 3 seed, University of Mary, in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament with first serve scheduled for 11:30am. WSU and UMary will meet for the second time in three matches, as the Marauders edged out the Warriors, 4-3, just last weekend.

In the match on April, 15, Winona State took close victories at the top two singles positions to earn the doubles point. Beth Murman and Ally Burger each won convincingly at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively, but UMary won the other four singles positions to win the match.

Heading into the postseason, Murman at No. 1 singles and Rachel Kelly at No. 2 singles have led the Warriors with 8-3 conference records each. Murman and teammate Sara Anderson hold an impressive 9-2 NSIC record at No. 1 doubles while Kelly and Burger are 7-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Winona State will look to revenge the loss against UMary in the quarterfinals to kick-start a tournament run with hopes of reaching their third-consecutive championship match appearance.
