Winona State student-athletes honored for academics by NSIC

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced that 881 student-athletes have earned NSIC All-Academic honors for the 2023 spring athletic season; 525 student-athletes were named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence, while 356 earned NSIC All-Academic Team honors.

Winona State University is represented by 53 student-athletes on the 2023 Spring All-Academic Team, including 33 named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence.

To be eligible for the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence, a student-athlete must have a 3.60 cumulative GPA or higher, while NSIC All-Academic Team members must have a 3.20 cumulative GPA or higher.

Additionally, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her/his institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.

Included in the NSIC Team of Excellence list are three NSIC Elite 18 Award winners; Matt Turner (men's golf), Rachel Henderson (women's golf), and Cooper Kapanke (baseball).

The 2023 award for Turner is the second time he has earned the award. All three Warriors were tabbed at their respective NSIC championship events for having earned the highest GPA of all participants at the event.
