St. Paul, Minn. - The Winona State University volleyball took on national power Concordia St. Paul in the Gangelhoff Center on Saturday, Sep. 23, falling to the Golden Bears, 3-0.
Winona State was riding a three match winning streak and entered Saturday's matchup in the 'Receiving Votes' section of the AVCA Coaches Poll. CSP, ranked No. 2 nationally, denied
Joe Getzin's squad any type of upset opportunity, taking the Warriors down in straight sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Winona State saw the home side vault out to a 7-3 lead before the Warriors would battle back to within one point at 7-6. The two teams traded points evenly until the mid-point of the set, when CSP would pull away, turning a 20-15 lead into a 25-16 set one win.
Set two saw WSU take a 7-6 lead early on, with a block by
Jayda Berg and
Taylor Pagel quickly followed with a kill from
Taylor Pagel to go up by one over the Golden Bears. However, CSP would respond with 6-0 run to regain the lead and distance themselves from the Warriors. Concordia, St. Paul would go on to win the set 25-14.
A come-from-behind upset was not in the cards in set three, with CSP defeating WSU 25-15.
Lydia Lange and
Rayliene Joens had back-to-back kills early on in the set, but the host Golden Bears would pull away with an 8-point run midway through the set for the victory.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
The last time Winona State faced off with CSP in the Ganglehoff Center, Oct. 5, 2021, WSU pulled off a 3-1 win.
The Saturday afternoon setback ended WSU's NSIC winning streak at three matches.
