KENOSHA, Wis.. - The Winona State University volleyball team returns to the road as the 2023 season takes the Warriors to the University of Wisconsin - Parkside for the 2023 Hampton Inn Invitational.
Winona State enters play in Kenosha, Wis. with a stellar 4-0 record and the momentum of a road sweep in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Head coach
Joe Getzin and the Warriors will look to continue their torrid pace on Friday and Saturday this week.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES
- Winona State enters the season picked ninth in the 2023 NSIC Volleyball Coaches Poll.
- WSU narrowly missed out on an NSIC postseason bid last fall, finishing ninth with a 12-15 overall mark and 8-12 NSIC record.
- The Warriors will play their first eight matches on the road before opening at home in NSIC play against the University of Sioux Falls on Thursday, Sept. 14.
- WSU will feature seniors Rylee Vaughn, Lydia Lange, Sidney Paulson, and Taylor Pagel this season.
- Sidney Paulson was selected as 2023 WSU's Player to Watch by the NSIC.
- Two seasons ago, the Warriors qualified for the 2021 NSIC Tournament and the 2021 NCAA Division II postseason, finishing 28-5 overall and 17-3 in league play.
- Winona State features five freshmen: Sophia Armstrong, Ashlyn Steding, Quinn Robak, Kenna Kornely and Jayda Berg. WSU also added transfer Leah Mach, a junior from Emporia State University.
- Head coach Joe Getzin heads into the weekend with a 359-334 (.515) career record accrued over 24 seasons.
- In his tenth year at Winona State, Getzin had previous stops at Embry Riddle (AZ), Portland and Ole Miss.
- Heading into 2023, Getzin is No. 1 all-time at Winona State in winning percentage (.682) and second all-time in seasons at the school (9), wins (165), and matches coached (240).
- WSU returns assistant coaches Kristine Fisch, Jackie Kiecker, and Mara Quam to the Warrior sideline this fall.
Westminster (Utah) STORYLINES
- The 2023 Westminster – WSU matchup is the first time in program history the two teams have played.
- Westminster was selected 12th in the 2023 RMAC Coaches Poll.
- WU is 1-3 on the 2023 season so far.
- The Griffins won their opening match of the year and have lost three straight.
- The Westminster roster features 19 players, including three seniors this season.
- Sue Dulaney enters her second season as head coach at Westminster.
Univ. of Wisconsin Parkside STORYLINES
- WSU and UW-Parkside have played nine times dating back to 2006.
- Winona State has an 8-1 record over the Rangers, having won six straight.
- UW-Parkside is 3-2 on the 2023 season far, including a 3-0 win over Truman State to start the Hampton Inn Tournament.
- The Rangers roster features 17 players with just three seniors.
- Head coach Leah Barea is in her sixth season with the Rangers.
Truman State STORYLINES
- WSU and Truman State have played just once, with the Bulldogs besting the Warriors 3-2 in 2012.
- The Bulldogs are 3-2 on the season heading into Saturday.
- TSU was selected to finish last in the 2023 GLVC Volleyball Preseason Poll.
- Truman State features 16 players, with five seniors on the squad.
- David Gannon was hired in July of 2021 to lead the Bulldogs.
Purdue Northwest STORYLINES
- The 2023 match marks the second meeting ever between WSU and PNW.
- Northwood was 16-16 overall and 10-8 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
- Purdue Northwest heads into Kenosha with a 1-3 record.
- PNW was 9-20 last season with a 2-16 GLIAC record.
- Sean Douglas was hired at Purdue Northwest in January, 2022.
WARRIOR NOTABLES:
- Earlier this summer, Winona State earned its 17th consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award.
- WSU's four-match winning streak matches the fast start of the 2021 NCAA Tournament Warrior team.
- Sidney Paulson heads into the weekend fifth in the NSIC in kills-per-set at 3.94.
- Rylee Vaughn is sixth in the NSIC in digs-per-set, at 4.67.
- Paulson is also third in total points across the league with 72.5 on the year.
- Head coach Joe Getzin coached assistant coach Jackie Kiecker when Kiecker was a student-athlete at Ole Miss.
