WINONA, Minn. – The Warriors earned a second consecutive convincing victory, dominating the University of Mary 48-7 for a Homecoming win.
It was all Winona State as the Warriors outgained the Marauders 454 yards to just 159. WSU threw for 260 yards and added 194 yards on the ground compared to 29 rushing yards by UMary. Winona State converted 24 first downs and held UMary to 10 first downs, three of which were by WSU penalties.
For the second straight game,
Jackson Flottmeyer led Winona State in rushing, gaining 72 yards on eight carries and found the endzone twice. Flottmeyer also threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns on 11-19 passing. Seven Warrior receivers caught a pass with
Sylvere Campbell hauling in a team-high 118 yards on four receptions and added two touchdowns.
Joe Sikma grabbed three receptions and tallied 72 yards.
Ty Johnson found paydirt on a three-yard catch and run.
Four Warriors split duties at running back as
Anthony Powell,
Cair'ron Hendred,
Ty Gavin, and
Quentin Pringle each gained at least 30 yards on the ground.
The Winona State defense stymied the Marauder offense, picking up six sacks and not allowing a score until the fourth quarter.
Ethan Doucette grabbed six tackles and was in on a TFL.
Ethan Torgrimson and
Tristan Root each forced fumbles while
Lincoln Snitker collected a pick-six.
The Warriors capitalized on their first possession of the evening with a 22-yard
Jacob Scott field goal. Flottmeyer then added another score in the first quarter on a 10-yard touchdown run. WSU added a barrage of points in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns in the first 4:56 of the frame. The Warriors headed into the locker room with a 38-0 lead and didn't look back from there. WSU was able to continue the dominant defensive effort in the second half to earn a 48-7 victory.
After back-to-back home wins, Winona State (3-3, 3-2 NSIC) will travel to Augustana on Saturday, October 19th for a 1:00pm kickoff.
