WARRIORS DEFEAT #7 SMSU ON THE ROAD

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Winona State University volleyball team traveled to #7 Southwest Minnesota State for a single game NSIC weekend, defeating the Mustangs in four sets. With the win against SMSU, this marks the Warriors third win against a nationally ranked opponent this season, all coming from within the NSIC.

Stat Leaders:

Set one and two:
The Warriors started out taking the first two sets in closely contested fashion. Winona State took an early lead in both sets not looking back. The Warriors would not see a lead of more than five points until the end of the first set. A pair of kills from Jayda Berg would highlight the end of set one, with WSU winning 25-18. Set number two would see the Mustangs battle back and keep the set within an arm's reach, but the Warriors would be too much ending with a block coming from Sidney Paulson and Ashlyn Steding.

Set three:
Set number three would be taken by the Mustangs with SMSU jumping out to an early 3-0 lead before the Warriors would fight back with kills from Quinn Robak and Lydia Lange. After the early 3-0 lead, there would not be a lead of more than two points the rest of the set, with #7 SMSU taking the set 25-23 with a block from Emma VanHeel and Ashley Peltier.

Set four:
The Warriors would respond after dropping set number three in thrilling fashion, taking an early 4-0 lead highlighted by kills from Gianna Vollrath and Kenna Kornely. Using that early lead, WSU would keep the Mustangs at bay, taking set four 25-18.
