WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's volleyball team traveled to Sioux Falls, S.D. to face off against Augustana University where the Warriors defeated the Vikings in three sets.
Stat Leaders:
Set one:
The Warriors jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind kills from
Kenna Kornely and
Sidney Paulson. Augustana would battle right back and take an early 5-9 lead with a plethora of kills coming from the Viking side. AU would keep the Warriors at bay for a while until the Warriors would take the lead with a block from
Gianna Vollrath making the set 21-20. WSU would finish the set in closely contested fashion winning 25-23 ending with a block from
Abigail Savatski and
Jayda Berg.
Set two:
Set two would see a similiar start, with the Warriors and Vikings battling back and forth, not seeing a lead of more than two points until Winona State would earn three straight points to take a 19-15 lead with a kill from Savatski. Augustana would try and come back, bringing the set to a tie at 23 apiece. The Warriors would eventually take set two in thrilling fashion with a kill coming from
Quinn Robak. 26-24
Set three:
The final set saw two early kills from
Kenna Kornely bring the Warriors to an early lead and they would not look back from there.
Anna Hennessy would collect her fourth and fifth service ace of the match in set three to lead Winona State to a three set sweep of the Vikings. 25-17
Winona State (14-8-7-4 NSIC) look to continue their winning streak against #11 Concordia-St. Paul (15-4, 10-1 NSIC) at home inside McCown Gymnasium on Saturday, October 26 at 4pm.
