WARRIOR FOOTBALL OPENS HOME STAND WITH BEMIDJI STATE

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University football team opens a two-game home stand by hosting Bemidji State on Saturday, October 26th at 1:00pm in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
 
The Warriors (3-4, 3-3 NSIC) suffered a setback last week, losing to Augustana on the road 31-0. Bemidji State (5-2, 4-2) earned a 21-9 victory over Minot State last Saturday.
 
Winona State has dropped three straight games to Bemidji State, including last year as BSU defeated the Warriors 36-10 in Bemidji, Minn. The two teams haven't squared off in Winona since 2017 when WSU earned a 30-20 win.
 
Winona State invites all fans to participate in the Warrior Game Day Experience, beginning at 11:00am at the intersection of Johnson and Mark streets on the campus of WSU.
 
Winona State Notes:
  • Winona State lost to Augustana last week 31-0 to fall to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the NSIC.
  • The Warriors were shut out for the first time since 2010, which came against Augustana as well.
  • Jackson Flottmeyer went 12-22 passing with 116 yards while rushing for 21 yards rushing on 14 attempts.
  • Nick Bucaro and Brent Jeske led the team in tackles, each with 7. Conner Haggerty, Bronson Schofield, and David Nies each had one tackle for loss with Haggerty and Nies each having one sack as well.
  • WSU allows an average of 19.3 points/game to NSIC opponents which is fifth best in the conference.
  • Winona State has the forth-best pass defense in the NSIC, allowing just 163.0 yards per game through the air to opponents per game.
  • The Warriors are the sixth-best team in the league at forcing 4th downs. WSU holds opponents to a 35.3% 3rd down conversion rate.
  • Winona State special teams have been a key part to success this season. WSU leads the NSIC in kickoff yardage per game and is second in punting.
  • Following this week's game, the Warriors are home against Minnesota Duluth for a 1:00pm kickoff in Winona, Minn. on Saturday, November 2.
 
Bemidji State Notes:
  • The Beavers are 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC this season. Their losses have come by a combined three points.
  • BSU has the best defense in the conference, allowing just 14.0 points/game to opponents and an average of 243.7 yards/game.
  • Bemidji State scores an average of 26.29 points per game on 382.0 yards/game.
  • BSU runs for an average of 179.7 yards and throws for 202.3.
  • Sam McGath has thrown for 14 TDs on 1376 yards this season averaging a 63.38 completion percentage.
  • Brice Peters is the main Beaver target, hauling in 88.43 yards/game and scoring eight touchdowns on the season.
  • The Beavers rely on several guys out of the backfield with Jayden Washington leading the team with 59.43 yards/game. Jarrett Gronski adds 34.57 yards on the ground and Sam McGath uses his feet to run for over 40 yards/game from the quarterback position.
  • Colton Hinrichs is Bemidji State's leading tackler, totaling 40.0 tackles for the season, including 2.5 sacks and 5.0 TFL. He also has an interception and a fumble recovery.
  • Bemidji State will host Wayne State next on Saturday, November 2.
